Chair, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel 1781–1841; maker, attributed to Paulina Sobolewowa ca. 1839–1919 in provenance. Biedermeier style, 1825–1835, possibly Poland. Biedermeier chair with a trapezoidal upholstered seat and a rectangular openwork backrest carved with a caduceus two winged snakes intertwined on a staff. Rectangular legs arched outward; back legs merge into the backrest frames. Straight frame. Seat upholstered in striped fabric. Backrest topped with a wide board; bottom is slatted. Seating furniture, height 84.3 cm, width 48.3 cm, depth 48.3 cm., A wooden chair with a light brown finish and carved decorative backrest sits on a pale gray tiled floor against a cream-colored wall; the seat is upholstered in a striped fabric featuring shades of beige, brown, and cream with a braided trim, the chair legs are curved and polished light brown wood, and a soft shadow is cast on the wall.
