Church throne armchair, carved, mid-18th century, Italy. Seating piece furniture with two console supports for the board seat and a high rectangular backrest in the form of an aedicula topped with a volute top. Supported on a platform cut out in the shape of the letter U. Supports, sides, and lower part of the back have a frame structure. Seat has a concave outline with a profiled rim, lifting in the middle on hinges. The aedicula in the backrest is two-part, with a shell at the top framed by a profiled cornice. Lower side walls arch into the armrests. Upper seat supports, armrests, and side pinnacles are carved with volutes formed of acanthus leaves. Aedicula shell rim and volutes in the finial are gilded. Ornament: shells, acanthus, volutes; style: Baroque. Height 201.5 cm, width 81 cm, depth 59 cm., A tall carved wooden chair with a high back featuring an arched shell motif near the top and ornate scrollwork and foliage carvings along the crest and sides, with visible gilded highlights on parts of the decorative carving; the wood is a rich dark brown with varied grain and finish, and the decorative accents appear gold; the seat and lower panel are plain dark brown wood, and the overall piece stands against a light gray background.
