Chest, repossession provenance noted, walnut. Cuboid carved storage chest, mid-16th century, Italy, Renaissance style. Supported by four low legs — front legs shaped as lion's paws, rear ones angular. Front has an applied profiled frame enclosing a pseudo-panel carved with grotesque elements on a grained background: central section shows two winged genii merging at the bottom into an acanthus twig, holding a laurel wreath above a scrollwork cartouche framing the lock; among the volutes are twigs, snakes, griffins, fantastic animals and figures, coats of arms, and herms decorative elements. Prominent plinth molding symmetrically decorated with gadroons. Straight side walls, originally with doorknobs. Hinges and lock striker of tinned, engraved steel. Function: piece of furniture/storage unit. Dimensions: height 54.5 cm, width 165.2 cm, depth 57 cm., A carved wooden chest with its lid open revealing the inside of the lid and the front panel, both showing a worn brown wood surface with metal hinge fittings; the exterior front is richly carved with a symmetrical ornamental design featuring foliage scrolls, a pair of small winged cherubs flanking a central shield-like motif, and stylized bird figures within the scrollwork, with carved human figure pilasters at the outer corners and a rounded carved base molding resting on claw-like feet; visible colors include various shades of brown in the wood, metallic gray on the hinge pieces, and a neutral gray background.
