Sleigh, rococo two-seater, carved, polychrome, gilded; 3rd quarter of the 18th century, Poland . The sleigh is shaped like a gondola made using the dugout canoe method, painted blue, with a wavy upper rim highlighted by a half-cylinder and channel sections with rocaille motifs. The front is a mascaron painted red, framed with acanthus leaves; at the rear is a trestle, originally upholstered, with carved acanthus beneath. Inside the sled are four sockets for connection with skid supports. Height 57 cm, width 208 cm, depth 68 cm., A sculpted wooden object shaped like a shallow boat with a carved humanlike head at one end and an extended flat tail at the other, featuring ornate scroll and leaf carvings along the sides. The interior of the boat is dark, appearing black or very dark blue, while the exterior surfaces show muted teal and faded gold tones on the decorative elements and trim. The carved head has reddish brown and pinkish brown hues with darker brown shading around facial features, and the overall piece shows areas of worn and aged paint.
