Chair, origin unknown, neo-Rococo Neo-Rococo CHAIR, rocaille ornament, flowers, acanthus ornament, fêtes galantes, floral bouquets, cartouches. Chair with padded backrest and seat, veneered with rosewood, decorated with porcelain plaques and cast brass fittings. S-shaped legs, widening in upper section, arching into a wavy, bulging frame; front ends with rollers. Backrest in form of a symmetrical cartouche, widening upwards, framed by channel sections topped with volutes; with a clearance. Porcelain plaques painted with flowers set in brass frames composed of rocaille, flowers, and acanthus leaves at center of front frame and backrest top. Frame edges accentuated with brass strips; knees and feet feature acanthus plaques and slippers. Seat upholstery on springs; upholstery fabric not original, with lace ribbons featuring floral bouquets. Date: 1850–1870, likely France. Seating furniture; height 103 cm, width 54.5 cm, depth 66.5 cm., A single ornate wooden chair with a curved high back and upholstered seat, featuring light beige patterned fabric on the backrest and cushion, carved wood trim in warm brown tones, and decorative gilded metal accents and embellishments in gold on the crest, corners, and legs; the front legs are cabriole style with gold ornamentation and small dark casters, and there are small painted porcelain inserts with multicolored details set into the wood trim.
