Armchair, origin unknown, neo-Rococo rocaille ornament, fetes galantes, 1850–1870, France, Veneered with rosewood; upholstered backrest, seat, armrests — upholstery non-original, on springs, with lace ribbons featuring floral bouquets. Decorated with porcelain plaques painted with flowers and cast brass fittings. S-shaped cabriole legs widening in the upper section, arching into a wavy, bulging frame terminating in rollers. Armrests repeat the frame outline on recessed, slightly S-shaped supports topped with volutes. Backrest shaped as a symmetrical cartouche widening upward, framed by channel sections topped with volutes and a clearance; porcelain plaques in center of front frame and backrest finial set in brass frames of rocaille, flowers, and acanthus. Frame edges accentuated with brass strips; additional brass fittings include a garland at the backrest finial, volutes at armrest ends, acanthus plaques and slippers at knees and feet. Function: seating unit; furniture. Dimensions: H 111 cm, W 70 cm, D 60 cm., A single ornate armchair seen from the side with a carved wooden frame in warm brown tones and gilded decorative accents, upholstered in a light beige patterned fabric; the chair has a high, slightly curved back, padded armrests, and a cushioned seat, with gilded scrollwork and floral embellishments on the crest, arms, and front legs, set against a neutral gray background with subtle shadowing on the floor.
