Glazed rectangular front door topped by a semicircular arch with applied plaques at corners depicting winged angel heads and an acanthus twig; lockable door with preserved keyhole and brass escutcheon. Side walls closed with semicircular arch; rectangular hinged rear door. Movement: plate skeleton with verge spindle escapement, striking function and pendulum. Silvered brass dial with engraved hour ring Roman numerals and minute ring Arabic numerals; date aperture with Arabic numerals for day of month. Steel hands: minute hand with O-ring at base and straight tip, shorter openwork hour hand. Small engraved strike/silent disk with steel hand to enable/disable striking. Central keyholes in dial one key preserved. Back plate covering mechanism with bell, hammer and pendulum gilded and engraved with acanthus volutes and a bird on a pedestal. Second half of the 18th century, London, England. Timepiece. Measurements: height 45 cm, width 28 cm, depth 20 cm., A wooden rectangular case with a curved top and a brass handle sits upright on small brass feet; the wood is a dark brown with visible grain and polished sheen, showing a few lighter and darker patches and smooth moldings around the top and base. The front has a recessed framed door with a glass opening revealing an internal brass plate that is a muted greenish-brass color with engraved decorative scrollwork and a few metal fittings and rods in darker metallic tones. A small metal hinge and a keyhole are visible on the door edge in darker brown and metallic colors. The background is a neutral light gray.
