Chocolate jug, maker: Edme-Pierre Balzac fl. 1739–1781, goldsmith. Pear-shaped chocolate jug supported on three legs, with a small spout and a hinged lid; circular opening with a sliding circular cover. Lower part of the belly decorated with vertical curls; upper part with repoussé garlands and an oval reserve. Materials/technique: metalwork vieux Paris, France, Paris, dated circa 1764–1765. Vessel; height 26 cm, width 24 cm, depth 13.5 cm. Purchased in 1883 for 500 francs., A close-up view of a round, ridged metallic surface with a radial pattern emanating from a smoother central area, showing a group of concentric, textured grooves and raised lines; visible colors include shades of silver, gray, and off-white, with slight darker gray accents in the grooves and a small curved metallic handle partially visible at the lower right edge.
