Chocolate jug by Edme-Pierre Balzac fl. 1739–1781, goldsmith. Pear-shaped chocolate jug supported on three legs, with a small spout and a hinged lid featuring a circular opening and a sliding circular lid. The lower part of the belly is decorated with vertical curls; the upper part with repoussé garlands and an oval reserve. France, Paris, 1764–1765. Vessel; height 26 cm, width 24 cm, depth 13.5 cm., A single metal pitcher with a hinged lid and a short spout stands on a neutral light gray background; the pitcher is silver in color with a polished finish and rests on a group of three curved legs, its body narrowing at the top and widening toward a rounded base decorated with a series of vertical fluted ridges, and the upper body features ornate embossed floral and foliate motifs surrounding an oval cartouche, while the lid has a ribbed design and a small finial with a hinge decorated by a curled element.
