Chocolate jug by Edme-Pierre Balzac fl. 1739–1781, goldsmith. Pear-shaped chocolate vessel supported on three legs, with a small spout and a hinged lid featuring a circular opening and a sliding circular cover. Lower part of the belly decorated with vertical curls; upper part with repoussé garlands and an oval reserve. Dated 1764–1765, Paris, France. Height 26 cm, width 24 cm, depth 13.5 cm. Purchased in 1883 as vieux Paris for 500 francs., A metallic pitcher with a hinged lid propped open, featuring a bulbous body and a short spout, standing on a group of curved legs; the surface has ornate embossed floral and ribbed decorative elements and a dark cylindrical handle attached to the side. The visible colors are silver on the metal and black on the handle, set against a light gray background.
