Chocolate jug by Edme-Pierre Balzac fl. 1739–1781, goldsmith. Pear-shaped chocolate vessel supported on three legs, with a small spout and a hinged lid featuring a circular opening and a sliding circular cover. The lower part of the belly is decorated with vertical curls; the upper part with repoussé garlands and an oval reserve. France, Paris, 1764–1765. Vessel: height 26 cm, width 24 cm, depth 13.5 cm. Purchased in 1883 as vieux Paris for 500 francs., A single metal pot with a rounded base and a lid sits on three curved legs, showing ornate engraved floral and scroll patterns on its body and a ribbed lower section; a dark wooden turned handle extends horizontally from one side, and the lid has a small decorative finial and a hinged opening. The visible colors are silver and dark brown against a light gray background.
