Chocolate jug by Edme-Pierre Balzac fl. 1739–1781, goldsmith. Pear-shaped chocolate vessel supported on three legs, with a small spout and a hinged lid; circular opening with a sliding circular lid. Lower belly decorated with vertical curls; upper part with repoussé garlands and an oval reserve. Dated 1764–1765, Paris, France. Dimensions: height 26 cm, width 24 cm, depth 13.5 cm. Purchased in 1883 as vieux Paris for 500 francs., A silver metal pitcher with a rounded, bulbous body standing on three curved feet, featuring engraved floral garlands and ornamental cartouches on its polished surface, a hinged domed lid with a small finial and decorative ridging, and a dark wooden side handle attached to a short metal socket; the visible colors are silver, dark brown, and gray.
