Hinge end for a chest; fittings, hinge end from a pair, in the form of an openwork rounded plaque with a tendril motif, two male masks among the twists. Hinge cut off; perhaps originally a disc hinge with a sleeve at the end of the plate or a strap hinge in the form of a clock hand. 17th century, Poland, Central Europe. Door fittings. Height 21.5 cm, width 12.5 cm, depth 0.2 cm. Maker: Roman Szewczykowski 1849–1901, An ornate, flat metal object with a symmetrical, openwork design featuring curving, scroll-like shapes and floral or leaf-like cutouts, showing a weathered surface with patches of darker and lighter areas; the metal appears mainly gray with areas of brownish tarnish and pale off-white spots, set against a uniform light gray background.
