Shell-shaped silver platter by Atkin Brothers Silversmith Ltd Sheffield; goldsmith and silversmith firm; 1826–1958, scrap–purchase provenance; floral ornaments, scallop-shell shape, acanthus leaves ornament, clasp, relief decorations. Silver platter in the shape of a scallop shell, terminating on one side with an oval narrow handle, radial clasp, decorated on the rim with relief floral ornament, volutes and acanthus scrolls, supported on three shell feet. Dated 1893/1894, Sheffield, England. Vessel; height 5 cm, width 10 cm handle?, overall 28.5 × 23 cm; weight 357 g., A decorative shell-shaped dish in metallic silver tones fills the frame, showing a scalloped rim and radiating ridges that create a fan-like pattern; the surface features ornate raised floral and scrollwork embellishments in darker and lighter shades of silver, with areas of subtle shine and shadow that emphasize the embossed textures, and an oval smooth cartouche near the narrower end surrounded by intricate curling motifs.
