Pocket watch by Jacques Marcet fl. ca. 1725–ca. 1750, 2nd quarter of the 18th century. Gilded silver, almost spherical double case; enameled numerals on the dial. Cases decorated with plant decoration: inner case with flowers in a vase in a reserve formed by a ribbon that on the outer side forms heart-shaped loops with floral sprigs between them. A strip of plant-floral tendrils runs on the side of the case. Outer case has a flower sprig in a circular central reserve surrounded by an interwoven ribbon and floral sprigs in the fields. Movement has an openwork bow and the Jacques/Marcet signature. Engraved case decoration is stylized in a Middle Eastern style—possibly intended for the Turkish market. No firm information about the watchmaker; he may have worked in England possibly a Huguenot. Country: France . Object type: timepiece. Dimensions: height 6.5 cm, width 5.5 cm, depth 4 cm. Style: classicism; decorative vases; flowers., A round metal pocket watch with a domed glass face centered against a pale gray background, showing a decorative golden dial with ornate engraved patterns and dark hands; the bezel and case are aged brass with engraved trim and a small ornamental winding crown at the top in darker brass tones; the visible colors are gold, brass, dark blue-black on the hands, and pale gray in the background.
