Scissor-shaped candlestick, so-called stoczek; maker: Jan Radecki fl. 1815–1837, goldsmith. Candlestick for a thin candle twisted serpentine around the stem; supported on a plate-shaped base edged with a half-cylinder, provided with a ring handle with thumb rest. Stem is a sleeve around which the thin candle was twisted; sleeve topped with a pine-cone finial with a vice in the form of flat scissors with volute handles that served to extend the candle to the desired length. Date: 1815–1837. Place: Poznan, Poland. Function: lighting. Dimensions: height 14.5 cm, width 14 cm, depth 11 cm. Provenance: purchase., A tarnished metal bowl viewed from above with a scalloped rim and a raised central boss, showing uneven dark and light gray patina with areas of darker brownish-gray discoloration; a small metal handle with a scalloped end extends from one side, and a faint reflection of the bowl and handle appears on the pale off-white surface beneath.
