Plaque with a battle scene in a silver frame, Hardwald, Salomon fl. ca. 1700–ca. 1750 goldsmith frame, unknown goldsmith. Circular, repoussé, in parts in high relief, with a representation of an episode from the Thirty Years' War in a gilded circular profiled frame; on it four ungilded decorative elements; on the top, an oval plaque with the Slepowron coat of arms and the date 1752, above a pendant in the form of a triangular plaque with the Eye of Providence. The frame is marked on the edge with the iSHW Hardwald mark and 13. Attributed variously in older catalogues as Bavarian or Austrian work, 17th century/1752. Place associations: Poland, Warsaw, Netherlands. Plaque; height 26.5 cm, width 21.5 cm, weight 215 g., A round metal plaque with a raised rim and an attached decorative loop at the top, shown against a solid gray background; the plaque surface is a dark metallic color with areas of brownish and greenish patina and lighter worn patches, and the rim shows similar dark metallic tones with hints of bronze and tarnish; the central relief depicts a dynamic scene with mounted figures and horses in motion, with one prominent horse and rider leaning forward at the center and others arranged behind, all rendered in the same dark metal with textured details and worn highlights; there are cloudy, sculpted shapes in the upper portion of the relief and several areas where the surface shows abrasions and variations in sheen, including some lighter, almost silvery spots and a small pale rectangular patch on the right side of the central field.
