Écuelle by Christian Lieberkühn fl. 1703–1733, goldsmith. Hidden on the bottom: city mark not recorded in the literature, maker's mark Szeffler, pp. 58–59, no. 90. Circular, bulging, smooth vessel on a low base with two horizontal handles with openwork. Vessels of this type, appearing already in the 13th–14th centuries, were used for drinking broth and soups; they usually had a plate–stand and a cover topped with a handle or three legs, in the latter case serving as a stand. Unpublished. Berlin, Germany. Vessel; height 7 cm, width 25 cm, depth 15.5 cm, weight 333 g., A shallow round metal bowl with a smooth reflective interior and ornate flat handles extending from opposite sides, set on a flat gray surface; the bowl and handles appear silver in color with subtle darker and warmer metallic reflections, and the background is various shades of gray.
