Souvenir key, steel, full shank with a simple feather in the form of two square brackets. Gilded bronze knot and handle: oval handle composed of two U-shaped sections decorated with leaves, fastened with a ducal mitre. Inside, an oval plaque: on one side a Gothic monogram L in red enamel; on the other a cast inscription: VON / DER STADT / DARMSTADT / DEN 26 DECEMB: / 1833. Given to Duchess Mathilde Caroline of Bavaria 1813–1862 and her husband Ludwig III Grand Duke of Hesse; 1806–1877 on the occasion of their wedding by the city of Darmstadt, 1833. Germany. Varia. Height 8.9 cm; width 2.6 cm., A decorative metal key rests in an open rectangular box lined with pale beige fabric, the key featuring a golden ornate bow with a central oval panel in red and a long silver shaft; the box interior edges are bordered with red trim that has gold decorative patterns, and the right side of the box shows folded and slightly wrinkled beige lining with red trim and gold accents; the surrounding background is a uniform light gray.
