Souvenir key, steel, with a full shank and a simple feather in the form of two square brackets. Gilded bronze knot and handle: oval handle composed of two U-shaped sections decorated with leaves, fastened with a ducal mitre. Inside, an oval plaque on one side with a Gothic monogram L in red enamel, on the other with a cast inscription: VON / DER STADT / DARMSTADT / DEN 26 DECEMB: / 1833. Given to Duchess Mathilde Caroline of Bavaria 1813–1862 and Ludwig III Grand Duke of Hesse, 1806–1877 on the occasion of their wedding, 26 December 1833; Germany. Varia; height 8.9 cm, width 2.6 cm., A single ornate key is shown against a plain light gray background; the key has a metallic silver shaft and bit with visible surface texture and a decorative gold-toned bow and collar, and the bow surrounds an oval red element.
