Mass chalice by Schwestermüller, David I fl. 1628–1678, goldsmith. Ovoid nodus and goblet with an openwork basket carved with Passion scenes: Prayer in the Garden of Olives, Ecce Homo, Christ in the Mystical Winepress, and angels bearing the Arma Christi. The profiled multi-leafed plinth and quadrangular foot are decorated with relief winged angel heads in conch-volute reserves, with hanging campanulas and applied angel heads on the division edges. Auricular ornamentation shows Netherlandish sources; figural depictions reflect features of late 16th-century Italian engravings. Vasa sacra liturgical vessel, height 25.5 cm, width 15.1 cm; ca. 1630–1635, Augsburg, Germany., A tall ornate goblet with a metallic bowl and a decorative stem and base; the bowl is primarily silver in color with intricate openwork and sculpted figures around its lower portion, and the interior rim shows a muted gold tone; the stem and base are predominantly gold in color with elaborate relief decorations, small sculpted faces, and curved ornamental forms, and the base rests on a smooth gray surface against a plain gray background.
