Mass chalice on a profiled multi-leafed plinth and a quadrangular foot decorated with relief winged angel heads in conch-volute reserves; campanulas and plastic angel heads on division edges; ovoid nodus with similar decoration. Goblet with an openwork basket carved with Passion scenes — the Prayer in the Garden of Olives, Ecce Homo, Christ in the Mystical Winepress — among which are angels bearing the Arma Christi. Considered a vasa sacra, symbolically associated with the tomb and earthly sufferings of Christ; Christ depicted as the man of sorrows with the instruments of his Passion. Graphic patterns likely compiled from several engravings; auricular ornamentation with Netherlandish sources and depictions showing features of late 16th-century Italian engravings cf. Agostino Carracci's Ecce Homo, 1587, after Corraggio. ca. 1630–1635, Germany; Augsburg; liturgical vessel; height 25.5 cm, width 15.1 cm., A tall ornate metal goblet stands against a plain gray background, featuring a silvery cup with an openwork decorative band that reveals underlying golden tones and sculpted figural reliefs, a golden baluster stem with detailed acanthus and mask motifs, and a flared golden base with a sculpted triangular pedestal decorated with floral reliefs and small winged cherub-like figures at its corners; visible colors include silver, gold, gray, and subtle variations of metallic sheen.
