Oval cake stand, maker: Johann Constantin Lange 1702–1761; silver; rocaille and acanthus ornamentation, rooster's comb motifs. Oval silver cake stand with multi-leaf cut, set on four legs in the form of palmettes; a concave-convex mirror with a multi-leaf outline and rocaille decoration, a wavy collar vertically divided by ribs rising upwards, decorated on the longer and shorter axes with four rooster combs and an acanthus twig, and a stepped-profile rim with a multi-leaf outline. Trays of this type, popular in Gdansk goldsmithing of the period, may have been used for serving spoons. Ca. 1763; Gdansk, Royal Prussia Poland. Vessel; weight 130 g; height 4 cm; width 14.8 cm; depth 21.1 cm., A shallow oval metal dish with a scalloped rim sits against a neutral gray background; the dish has a reflective silver surface with areas of darker tarnish and small spots, a central raised decorative cartouche with flowing scroll-like motifs, and a few engraved floral or shell-like designs around the interior edges, with the metal surface showing smooth curved panels and subtle dents and wear.
