Table spoon with shooting brotherhood emblem, maker: Hermann, Christoph fl. ca. 1740–1778 goldsmith, active from the 1740s, died 1778. Silver spoon, ca. mid-18th century. On the reverse of the bowl: dotted italic inscription Anno 1766 1 April; below it an engraved shooting shield, crossed rifles, and the Elblag coat of arms. Along the handle: dotted, very faded German italic inscription Hier isst ? der Platz da zeigt deinen Fleis / Ein Edlen Rath # dir Ehr und Preis. Obverse of the handle has a later inscription: AW CH / 1860 / 14 Sept. Function: shooting-award spoon awarded at annual marksman fraternity competitions. Place: Elblag, Royal Prussia. Cutlery; length 22.5 cm; weight 64 g., A single metal spoon lies horizontally on a light gray surface, showing the bowl on the left and the handle extending to the right; the bowl has engraved concentric circular patterns and decorative engraved motifs with visible scratches and a slightly worn, reflective silver-gray finish, while the handle tapers and ends in a scallop-shaped terminal with ridged fan-like grooves and small stamped marks, the entire object exhibiting areas of subtle tarnish and variations of silver-gray tones against a pale gray background.
