Table spoon with shooting brotherhood emblem, Hermann, Christoph fl. ca. 1740–1778, goldsmith, active from the 1740s, died 1778. Silver spoon, ca. mid-18th century. On the reverse of the bowl: dotted italic inscription Anno 1766 1 April above an engraved shooting shield, crossed rifles, and the Elblag coat of arms. Along the handle: dotted German inscription, very faded in italics Hier isst ? der Platz da zeigt deinen Fleis / Ein Edlen Rath # dir Ehr und Preis. On the obverse of the handle: later inscription AW CH / 1860 / 14 Sept. Function: shooting award presented at annual marksman fraternity competitions. Place: Elblag, Royal Prussia. Type: cutlery. Length 22.5 cm; weight 64 g., A metal spoon lies diagonally across a flat surface, showing a reflective, slightly tarnished bowl and a long handle that tapers to a rounded end; the spoon surface has small spots and scratches and a subtle sheen, and the background and overall scene include shades of gray with areas of lighter and darker gray.
