Toilet box by Thomas I Pitts fl. 1755–ca. 1793, goldsmith; Classicism, George III/Georgian, Classicist. Round toilet box with lid, decorated with laurel festoons suspended from rosette medallions; lower edge with a knurled belt of stylized lesbian cymatium. Slightly arched cover edged with a knurled wavy running dog ornament, with a central circular medallion in relief showing Athena wearing a helmet and holding a spear in her left hand; at right a circular reserve and an olive branch. Materials: presumably silver toilet accessory. Inscription/attribution: Pitts. Date: 1780/1781. Place of origin: London, England. Dimensions: height 5.2 cm; diameter 7.9 cm; weight 206 g., A round shallow dish viewed from above with a smooth interior surface showing wear marks and faint scratches, the interior color is a warm beige with areas of slightly darker smudging, the rim and outer edge are a pale off-white with tiny dark spots and chips, the background is a very light gray.
