Fragrance container vinaigrette, maker: Thomas Shaw fl. 1822–ca. 1840; 1782–1845, goldsmith. Scrap - purchase; provenance: purchase. Vinaigrette in the form of a bag with an envelope closure and protruding tongue, front decorated with dot-engraved flowers and leaves. Hinged lid opens to an interior openwork insert decorated with plant scrolls. 1834/1835. England, Birmingham, Great Britain. Toilet accessory. Materials/technique: engraving, openwork. Dimensions: height 2.1 cm, width 1.5 cm, depth 1 cm; weight 10 g., A small open metal box with a hinged lid shown from an angled top view, revealing an interior with a worn golden surface and a few scratched areas; the exterior is silver-colored with a slightly textured finish and darker tarnished spots; the underside of the lid has a perforated panel with irregular holes and a gold-toned surface around them; the hinge and inner rim show metallic wear with a mix of gold and silver tones; the background is a smooth light gray.
