Vinaigrette in the form of a bag with an envelope closure and a protruding tongue; front decorated with dot-engraved flowers and leaves. Hinged lid opening to an interior openwork insert decorated with plant scrolls. Materials/technique: engraving, openwork. Date: 1834/1835. Place: Birmingham, England, Great Britain. Function: toilet accessory. Dimensions: height 2.1 cm, width 1.5 cm, depth 1 cm; weight 10 g., A small rectangular metal box with rounded edges and an attached flap closure, covered all over in incised decorative patterns including dotted lines and floral and geometric motifs; the surface shows scratches and areas of wear. The visible colors are silver and gray, with subtle darker gray tones in the carved recesses.
