Single-candle candlestick by John Schofield fl. 1776–1796. Classicism/Georgian style with George III influences. Made in London, England, 1789/1790. Silver candlestick supported on a circular profiled stepped foot, decorated with a knurled band of stylised acanthus twig with flowers on a seeded background. Faceted stem enclosed at the bottom by lanceolate leaves, widening toward the top and terminating in a ring decorated with knurled oak leaves. Vase sleeve with lanceolate leaves at the bottom, faceted above with a slightly rolled edge. Function: lighting. Height 29.8 cm; width 13.8 cm; weight approx. 680 g., A round metallic object viewed from above with a central dark circular opening surrounded by a shiny silver rim, set on a larger circular base with decorative ridges and a subtle ornamental border; visible colors include silver, gray, black, and off-white.
