Single-candle candlestick by John Schofield fl. 1776–1796. Georgian/George III classicism style; silver. Supported on a circular profiled stepped foot, decorated with a knurled band of stylized acanthus twig with flowers on a seeded background; faceted stem enclosed at the bottom by lanceolate leaves, widening toward the top and terminating in a ring decorated with knurled oak leaves; vase sleeve with lanceolate leaves at the bottom, faceted above with a slightly rolled-up edge. Inscribed/dated 1789/1790. Origin: London, England. Function: lighting. Height 29.8 cm; width 13.8 cm; weight approx. 680 g., The image shows a tall, slender candlestick with a metallic silver surface standing against a light gray to white gradient background. The candlestick has a flared top cup with vertical ridges and a decorative band beneath it featuring leaf-like reliefs, a tapered column with fluted vertical grooves, and a rounded base section with a raised decorative band of floral or foliate motifs. The metal appears polished with subtle reflections and slightly darker areas in the recesses of the ornamentation, and the overall visible colors are silver, gray, and white.
