Silver candlestick supported on a circular, profiled, stepped foot, decorated with a knurled band of stylised acanthus twig with flowers on a seeded background; faceted stem enclosed at the bottom by lanceolate leaves, widening towards the top and terminating in a ring decorated with knurled oak leaves; vase sleeve with lanceolate leaves at the bottom, faceted above with a slightly rolled-up edge. Dated 1789/1790, London, England. Function: lighting. Height 29.8 cm; width 13.8 cm; weight approx. 680 g., A tall metallic candlestick stands against a plain light gray background, showing a silvery finish with reflective surfaces and areas of subtle patina; the top has a flared cup with vertical ridges and a decorative band beneath featuring raised leaf-like motifs, followed by a tapered column with fluted vertical ridges and a midsection with repeated elongated leaf patterns, a slender neck and rounded knop leading to a tiered circular base; the base is slightly domed with an ornamental band of stylized floral and scroll designs around its upper edge and concentric ridged rings at the lowest edge; overall colors visible are silver, pale gray, and faint darker gray tones in the crevices and shadows.
