Single-candle candlestick by John Schofield fl. 1776–1796. Classicism/Georgian style with acanthus ornament and oak leaves. Candlestick supported on a circular, stepped-profile foot decorated with a band of stylised acanthus tendrils with flowers; faceted stem enclosed at the bottom by lanceolate leaves, widening towards the top and terminating in a ring knurled with oak leaves; vase sleeve with lanceolate leaves at the bottom, faceted above with a slightly rolled-up edge. Dated 1789/1790. England, London. Function: lighting. Height 29.8 cm, diameter 13.8 cm, weight approx. 680 g., A tall, slender metallic candlestick with a flared cup-shaped top and a narrow stem, shown against a plain light gray background. The candlestick has decorative fluted and leaf-like carved details along the cup, upper shaft, and a lower section of the stem, and a rounded stepped base with a carved band of repeating floral or vine motifs. The surface appears metallic with a polished finish showing reflective highlights and subtle darker tarnished areas, primarily displaying silver and gray tones.
