Single-candle candlestick by John Schofield fl. 1776–1796. Classicism/Georgian style with acanthus ornament and oak leaves. The candlestick is supported on a circular, stepped-profile foot decorated with a band of stylised acanthus tendrils with flowers; faceted stem enclosed at the bottom by lanceolate leaves, widening towards the top and terminating in a ring knurled with oak leaves. Vase sleeve with lanceolate leaves at the bottom, faceted above with a slightly rolled-up edge. Dated 1789/1790, London, England. Function: lighting. Height 29.8 cm; diameter 13.8 cm; weight approx. 680 g., A tall metallic candlestick with a reflective silver surface, featuring a flared cup at the top with vertical fluting, a rounded section with embossed leaf-like motifs, a long tapered column with subtle vertical ridges, and a decorative band with raised leaf patterns near the middle; the stem narrows into a smaller fluted section above a rounded joint and rests on a wide, domed base that has concentric ridges and a ring of raised floral and leaf ornamentation.
