Single-candle candlestick by John Schofield fl. 1776–1796. Classicism/Georgian/George III style. Silver candlestick supported on a circular, stepped-profile foot, decorated with a band of stylised acanthus tendrils with flowers; faceted stem, enclosed at the bottom by lanceolate leaves, widening towards the top and terminating in a ring knurled with oak leaves; vase sleeve with lanceolate leaves at the bottom, faceted above with a slightly rolled-up edge. Dated 1789/1790. England, London. Function: lighting. Height 29.8 cm; diameter 13.8 cm; weight approx. 680 g., A single tall metallic object with a reflective silver surface stands against a light gray background, featuring a flared top with vertical ridges, a rounded midsection with carved leaf-like patterns, a long tapered column with fluted vertical grooves, a narrower ribbed section with elongated leaf motifs, and a broad circular base decorated with a raised band of floral or vine ornamentation; the visible colors are silver and shades of gray.
