Tea caddy by Nash, Bowles fl. 1720–ca. 1725, goldsmith; rococo style. Cuboid tea caddy with a circular domed lid and a bowl on the top; chamfered side edges; movable, slide-in bottom. Surface decorated with repoussé ornament with floral and rocaille motifs on a grained background; front with an oval rocaille cartouche topped with an eagle, containing an engraved inscription: KENNETH Mc LEOD, / to his much loved Sister / ANNE ZABA, / Oct 23 rd 1848; back with a bouquet of flowers; sides with blooming, leafy roses. Engraved S on the bottom. Dates: 1723/1724 tins; ca. mid-19th century decoration. Place of origin: London, England, Great Britain. Material/type: vessel for loose-leaf tea. Dimensions: height 12 cm, width 7.7 cm, depth 5.7 cm; weight ca. 230 g., A silver-colored metal container with an octagonal shape and a short cylindrical neck at the top, standing on a stepped base; the upright panels are decorated with ornate, raised floral and foliate designs and textured backgrounds, showing stylized flowers, petals, scroll motifs, and repeating scallop-like patterns; the metal surface is polished and reflective with areas of brushed texture and slight tarnish, and the overall color palette includes shades of silver and gray.
