Two-candle candelabrum. Maker: Charles Hougham fl. 1769–1793. Style: Classicism, George III / Georgian. Description: Two-armed candelabrum on an oval foot bordered with pearling and decorated with a knobbed rosette. Conical, fluted stem topped with a vase-shaped socket, containing a setting with two S-shaped arms terminating in saucers and vase-shaped sockets with drip-pans; center between the arms is a vase topped with a ball. Sleeves decorated halfway with vertical flutes, smooth above. Date: 1787/1788. Place: London, England. Function: Lighting. Materials/technique: goldsmith work. Dimensions: height 38 cm, width 39 cm, depth 12 cm; weight 1060 g., A symmetrical metallic object with a shiny silver finish consisting of a central lidded vessel with a rounded finial on top flanked by two matching goblet-like cups, all set on shallow oval trays with beaded rims; the cups and central vessel have fluted lower sections and sit on short stems with decorated collars, and two sinuous double-arched arms connect the outer cups to the central tray, all against a plain light gray background with visible highlights and reflections in silver tones and a few subtle darker gray shadows.
