Two-candle candelabrum, Hougham, Charles fl. 1769–1793 goldsmith, classicism, George III / Georgian style. Two-armed candelabrum on an oval foot bordered with pearling and decorated with a knobbed rosette. Conical, fluted stem topped with a vase-shaped socket, containing a setting with two S-shaped arms terminating in saucers and vase-shaped sockets; in the centre between the arms is a vase topped with a ball. Sleeves decorated halfway with vertical flutes, smooth above. Scrap - purchased. 1787/1788. England, London. Function: lighting. Height 38 cm; width 39 cm; depth 12 cm; weight 1060 g., A silver three-armed ornamental object with an overall metallic sheen consisting of a central urn-shaped piece topped by a domed finial and two matching goblet-like holders on either side, connected by gracefully curved tubular arms that form symmetrical loops; each holder sits on a shallow round drip plate with beaded edges, and the bases of the supports feature fluted and acanthus-like decorative motifs; the surface is reflective and shows variations in light and shadow with visible polished highlights and subtle darker tones, and the background is a smooth pale gray.
