Single-candle candlestick, William Cafe fl. 1757–ca. 1802, goldsmith; rococo George II style. Silver scrap; 1763/1764, London, England, Great Britain. Rococo candlestick on a raised domed foot with a hexagonal rim, decorated with flower heads at the corners, passing into a baluster shaft and terminating in a vase-shaped socket with a disc-shaped profiled drip pan. Decorated with rococo motifs—rocailles, plant tendrils, flowers, cartouches, shells and acanthus leaves—with a slight spiral twist to the overall decoration. Function: lighting. Height 29 cm; diameter 16.9 cm; weight 717 g., A roughly star-shaped object with an irregular scalloped edge, showing a textured, bumpy surface and a central round hollow; the surface colors include off-white, beige, tan, light brown, and small areas of darker brown, with a slight glossy sheen and subtle variations creating shadowed contours.
