Single-candle candlestick by William fl. 1757–ca. 1802, rococo style, 1763/1764, England, London, Great Britain. Rococo single-candle candlestick on a raised, domed foot with a hexagonal rim, decorated with flower heads at the corners, passing into a baluster shaft and terminating in a vase-shaped socket with a disc-shaped profit. Decorated with rococo motifs in the George II style — rocailles, plant tendrils, flowers, cartouches, shells and acanthus leaves; entire decoration slightly spirally twisted. Materials/technique: scrap goldsmith. Function: lighting. Height 29 cm; diameter 16.9 cm; weight 717 g., A single ornate candlestick displayed against a neutral background, made of a shiny silver material with a reflective surface; it has a flared top and a tapered shaft featuring sculpted floral and leafy reliefs around the midsection and upper stem, including rose-like blossoms and petal motifs; the lower stem curves into a rounded knop with carved scrollwork and vegetal details, leading to a wide ornate base decorated with raised floral patterns, scrolling acanthus leaves, and rounded edge embellishments in matching silver tones.
