Single-candle candlestick by William Cafe fl. 1757–ca. 1802. Rococo George II style single-candle candlestick on a raised domed foot with a hexagonal rim, decorated with flower heads at the corners, passing into a baluster shaft and terminating in a vase-shaped socket with a disc-shaped drip pan. Decorated with rocailles, plant tendrils, flowers, cartouches, shells and acanthus leaves; overall decoration is slightly spirally twisted. Materials/technique: scrap. Date: 1763/1764. Place of origin: London, England, Great Britain. Function: lighting. Height 29 cm; diameter 16.9 cm; weight 695 g., A metallic object with a central cylindrical base and a shallow, flared top is centered against a light gray background; the top rim shows an ornate raised floral and leaf pattern with curved, scalloped edges, and the surface of the object appears reflective with visible scratches and subtle variations in shading; colors visible include silver, light gray, and subtle darker gray tones.
