Single-candle candlestick by William Cafe fl. 1757–ca. 1802, rococo; silver. Rocaille ornament; plant ornaments, flowers, shells, cartouches, acanthus leaves; relief decoration. Rococo on a raised, domed foot with a hexagonal rim, decorated with flower heads at the corners, passing into a baluster shaft, terminating in a vase-shaped socket with a disc-shaped drip pan. Decoration slightly spirally twisted in George II / Georgian style. Dated 1763/1764. Place of origin: London, England, Great Britain. Function: lighting. Height 29 cm; diameter 16.9 cm; weight 695 g., A pair of ornate metallic candlesticks photographed against a plain gray background, each with a decorative flared top, a slender stem adorned with sculpted floral and foliate motifs, and a wide ornate base with raised floral and scrollwork details; the metal has a reflective silver tone with highlights and soft shadows showing its three-dimensional relief, and the background and surface tones are various shades of gray.
