Vilnius. Cathedral — interior of the royal crypt. Photograph by Jan Bulhak 1876–1950, 1931. Depicts crypts revealed by archaeological excavations after the 1931 flood in Vilnius. Photograph from nature; 14.5 × 16.5 cm., A grayscale photograph showing a rough indoor space with a brick wall backdrop and a dirt floor scattered with broken concrete and rubble; a large irregular slab of concrete or stone leans across the right side, and a pile of crumbled material with coarse texture occupies the foreground. Toward the left a metal bucket sits near a wooden chest and a group of wooden boards and planks, with a few pieces of cloth draped over them. Several rectangular blocks and pieces of masonry lie on the ground around a shallow trench or depression. The visible tones are various shades of gray, black, and white throughout the scene.
