A dog scene with a dog barking at a goat, Roos, Philipp Peter 1657–1706 painter. The general tone of light browns and shades of pink with cumulus clouds, the glow of the last plane beyond the arcade of the bridge with ruined buildings surrounds the view of urban buildings by the river. In the foreground, a dog barking at a goat that is attacking it; on the right side, a sheep lying near a tree trunk. 18th century, Italy; overdoor. Height 90.0 cm, width 115.0 cm., A dark-toned painting shows a dog in a defensive or alert posture facing another animal partially visible at the right edge. The dog has a mix of brown, black, and cream fur with lighter highlights on its chest and legs, and its mouth is open showing teeth. The animal on the right displays coarse fur in shades of brown and gray and appears larger and more textured. The background includes a cave-like opening with muted pink and peach tones visible through it, surrounded by deep browns and dark greens, and a ground area rendered in earthy browns, grays, and ochre. Overall the palette is dominated by dark browns, black, muted greens, cream, and touches of pink and peach.
