The painting contains a large pack animal with a woven load, several dogs or similar animals nearby, and a person leaning toward the animals. The background of the painting includes distant landscape features and a sky with clouds. The surrounding panel is cream to off-white with decorative moldings and sculpted floral motifs, and the vertical edges beside the panel show carved elements with greenish tones. A strip of blue tape runs along the bottom edge of the visible wall. The prominent colors visible are brown, beige, cream, white, green, blue, and muted orange.
