The foreground is a genre scene: next to a donkey laden with baskets a peasant secures the load; nearby are two dogs, two goats and two rams. 18th century, Italy; overdoor. Height 92.0 cm, width 127.5 cm., A painted scene set within an ornate white frame shows a pastoral group with a few animals and a person. The colors include browns, creams, muted greens, greys, blues, and touches of reddish tones. A central light-colored horse with decorative harnessing stands near a man partly obscured and wearing darker clothing. Several goats and sheep with cream, brown, and grey fur gather nearby, and a dark-colored dog is visible at the lower left. The background displays a landscape with rolling hills, a distant building and towers, and a sky filled with soft clouds ranging from blue-grey to warm brownish hues. The frame around the painting is white with carved ornamental details.
