Sleeping Ariadne, Classicist copy of the Hellenistic Sleeping Ariadne original c. 200 BC. It depicts a semi-reclining woman supported by her left arm; the right leg, bent at the knee, obscures the tucked-in left one. The right arm is unnaturally bent above the head. The face is elongated with closed eyes. A long, folded, decoratively wrinkled robe covers the entire body. A bracelet in the form of a snake entwines the left arm, leading to past identifications as an antique representation of the dying Cleopatra. 18th/19th century, Italy. Sculpture. Height 54.5 cm, width 72.5 cm, depth 25.0 cm., A white marble sculpture of a reclining draped figure rests on a textured base with chiseled patterns; the figure's flowing drapery creates smooth folds and curves over the body, one arm bent with the hand near the head and the other arm and hand partially visible near the feet, and the feet extend slightly beyond the base. The visible colors are white and shades of gray against a black background.
