Painted storage vessel, painted Coptic storage vessel with figural and floral decorations. Fragment of the upper part of a large storage vessel: the neck and upper part of the body. Decoration painted in black and red on a creamy white underlay. The rim has a thick, outward-protruding edge with a concave outer surface. Upper part painted with a row of horizontally running spirals with large red spots; spirals enclosed in red horizontal stripes, each bounded top and bottom by black lines. Below, partially on the body, are figural representations: heads or fragments of male and female figures. The central head is surrounded by a halo; the side heads wear headgear and have no haloes. Spaces between heads filled with floral elements in the lower part and black dots in the upper part. Vessel made of Nile clay, medium porous N.B2. 6th century, Egypt; vessel; diameter 26 cm external rim; height 31 cm., A broken ceramic object made of reddish-brown clay with rough dark gray edges is shown against a flat gray background; the ceramic pieces form a partial curved shape with visible inner surfaces that are lighter beige with horizontal ridged textures and speckled darker spots, and the outer surfaces show smoother reddish-brown areas with some darker flecks.
