Fragment of a vessel stand, painted Coptic vessel stand with floral decorations. Walls formed into a hoop with the diameter of the upper edge slightly larger than the lower. Decoration painted in black and red on a beige whitewash background. Lower edge bulges outward and inward in the form of a half-cylinder; its outer surface decorated with a black horizontal band. Upper edge has an outward rim; its horizontal outer surface decorated with a red band bearing several black dots and a series of lines perpendicular to the rim. Exterior decorated with almond-shaped, stylized, unevenly sized plant elements with pointed tips upward; each almond-shaped motif filled with a grid of black lines and surrounded by two or three groups of arcuate lines repeating its shape. Made of medium-porous Nile clay. 6th–7th century, Tell Atrib; vessel. Height 8.5 cm, width 13.7 cm, lower outer rim diameter 24 cm, upper outer rim diameter 25 cm., A broken curved fragment of reddish-brown clay with a rough textured outer surface and a smoother inner surface, showing a worn edge and chipped areas; the fragment has decorative parallel incised grooves on one broken end with some lighter and darker patches of pigment; the background is a uniform muted gray.
