Fragment of a vessel stand, painted Coptic vessel stand with floral decorations. The walls form a hoop with the upper edge diameter slightly larger than the lower. Decoration painted in black and red on a beige whitewash background. The lower edge bulges outward and inward in a half-cylinder form; its outer surface has a black horizontal band. The upper edge has an outward rim whose horizontal outer surface bears a red band with several black dots and a series of lines running perpendicular to the rim. Exterior decorated with almond-shaped, stylized, unevenly sized plant elements with pointed tips, each filled with a grid of black lines and surrounded by two or three groups of arcuate lines repeating its shape. Medium-porous Nile clay. 6th–7th century, Tell Atrib; vessel. Height 8.5 cm, width 13.7 cm, lower outer rim diameter 24 cm, upper outer rim diameter 25 cm., A broken piece of pottery or tile is shown against a plain gray background; the fragment has an overall terracotta and reddish-brown color with areas of pale beige and light tan on its surface, darker brown rough edges, and a few small darker spots and speckles.
