Lekythos with a sphinx; unknown Attic workshop; recovered war losses; ceramics; Greek ceramics; vessels; sphinx mythological and iconographic. A small Attic red-figure lekythos with a vase form. The neck is narrow; the belly is round, mounted on a round foot. The central front of the belly is decorated with an image of a sphinx. The back of the vessel has worn finials. 1st half of the 4th century BC; Attica. Vessel; height 9.4 cm; diameter 6 cm., A rounded ceramic vessel viewed from above showing a circular neck and opening, with a broken rim segment and rough chipped areas; the surface displays a mix of earthy brown tones and dark black patches, with lighter tan spots where the outer coating has worn away, and a few textured areas revealing raw clay; the background is a pale light gray.
